Rated Current, Voltage & High-Current Applicability of M5 Connectors

Electrical Performance Core Criterion

  • Miniaturization Design + Low-Power Orientation : The electrical parameters of M5 connectors are designed based on their miniature size, primarily for low-power signal and small-current power transmission scenarios, with clear limitations on high-current applications.

Standard Electrical Parameters

Rated Current

Conventional M5 connectors have a rated current of 0.5-2A , which is mainly applicable to 3Pin and 4Pin configurations. This range is suitable for low-power signal transmission and micro-power supply.

Rated Voltage

The rated voltage is 60V AC/DC , which can meet the voltage requirements of most low-voltage DC systems and weak current signal circuits in industrial and electronic equipment.

Applicability for High-Current Equipment

Not recommended for high-current equipment . Due to the limitation of miniature size, the cross-sectional area of M5 connector pins is small, and the current-carrying capacity is limited. Exceeding the rated current (>2A) will cause overheating, insulation aging, and even burn the connector. It is necessary to strictly match the equipment power and avoid overload use. For high-current transmission scenarios, it is recommended to choose M8/M12 and other larger-sized connectors.

Technical Note: When using M5 connectors, calculate the actual working current and voltage of the equipment in advance, and reserve a certain safety margin (usually 1.2-1.5 times the rated value). In high-temperature environments, the current-carrying capacity will be reduced, and the derating use should be considered. For special low-current high-voltage scenarios, consult the manufacturer for parameter confirmation.
